Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities Benefit
This is an income based benefit program of the Ministries of Community and Social Services and Children and Youth Services to help families with extraordinary expenses related to their child's condition.
The ACSD benefit is available for children who:
live at home
are 17 or less years of age
are diagnosed with having a condition causing a severe functional loss which affects their ability to perform activities of normal daily living, such as walking, self-feeding, dressing, personal hygiene, communication etc.
Family income and the child’s needs are key points in determining the amount of funding to be granted. Extraordinary costs refer to those expenses which are over and above the normal costs of a non-disabled child, including diets, clothing, drugs, transportation and parental relief.
Eligible amounts can be between $25 and $440 a month, depending on family size and gross family income. The funds granted will represent the approved monthly costs that are associated with the needs of the qualifying child.
Additional benefits upon approval can include:
Drug Card-covers the cost of most prescription, but not their dispensing fees
Dental Card-covers the cost of basic dental care
Eyeglasses and hearing aids-prior approval is required. Please contact us.
Ministry Application and Information sheets are available below for you to view. If you are interested in applying and live in Huron County, please contact us at Community Support for Families Program, (519) 482-3557.
