Contract Workers

Community Support for Families Program can provide a link between independent, self-employed contract workers and families.  This is done by collecting résumés from potential workers, conducting a Police Record Search, a Vulnerable Sector Screen and a CAS check.

In partnership with families, CSFF will:

  • assist families to develop a support plan for their son or daughter;

  • provide resumes and reference checks for families in search of potential contract workers;

  • answer questions the family has about hiring their contract workers;

  • provide a draft service agreement on behalf of the family between the contract worker and the family,  which outlines services and supports to be provided, hours, and rate of reimbursement for services; and

  • provide reimbursement to contract workers on behalf of families, based on their approved SSAH and/or ACSD Benefi

Families will:

  • Select contract workers;

  • Communicate support requirements and important issues to contract worker and CSFF Program facilitator;

  • Have home liability insurance of not less than one million dollars, as well as automobile insurance;

  • Track hours and use of funds; families will be responsible for payment to workers directly should a worker use more than the authorized amount;

  • Provide regular supervision to contract worker and monitor progress on goals;

  • Verify and sign invoices and agreements; and

  • Parents are responsible for paying the worker directly when a direct purchase agreement exists.

 Contract workers also have responsibilities in the agreement. They will:

  • Provide supports, including transportation, as directed by the family, in accordance with the signed agreement;

  • Provide written reports quarterly for signature by parent or guardian and then submit them to the CSFF Program office, as well as communicate other updates as needed;

  • Keep record of hours, mileage and expenses, including receipts, on the invoices provided;

  • Understand that they are self-employed and no T4 will be issued;

  • advise their insurance company if they transporting people in your vehicle to ensure coverage and provide a copy of insurance to the CFSS Program office

  • Provide the CSFF Program with a copy of valid First Aid and CPR certifications and any professional registrations (ie nurses), if available;

  • Maintain confidentiality, unless abuse is suspected; and

  • Contact CAS if child abuse or neglect is suspected.
